Joe's table

Don’t come here if you want good Thai food. I know this place has the one-man show hype but the standard of food is a disappointment. Waited for more than one hour after we ordered and only to be served this - Yes this is a $40 beef rib dish which has ONE small piece of meat. Safe to say its less than 100g. Also ordered the duck curry and silken tofu, average Thai food at best. Don’t waste your money here.

The world needs more restaurants owned by people like Joe! I was amazed by how skillful the owner paid attention to every detail of running the restaurant. From the cooking to the greeting and hospitality. You could really see and taste the pride in each bite. I had the fish cakes and honey lemon chicken. Both were amazing and I would be happy to give other dishes a try in the future.

We were lucky to be able to get in to dine at Joe's Table on the opening night of his new location at the corner of Bourke St and William St in Darlinghurst. With a bigger, brighter and more open space (which is great as the tables are now spaced a bit further apart making it easier to chat) Joe's Table is amongst our favourites and it's as good as ever. If you are not familiar with Joe's, it's pretty amazing - Joe does everything - welcome you, take your order, prepare your meal, serve your wine (if you ordered wine) and removes your dishes and then washes them too! Joe's is relaxed, friendly and the food is well prepared with each dish packed with flavour and spices. Joe's serves Thai food and the menu offers a number of choices, which change from time to time (that's a good thing too). Be clear that as Joe is doing everything himself you will need to be patient and not in a rush. This is not a fast food dining experience but one to sit back and enjoy with friends. We look forward to returning soon.

Even it is street food menu but the dishes are so refined that you don’t feel oily or overly seasoning. They are hatted quality. The fish is tender and flavoursome. The only dish that was a bit underwhelming is the vegetable dish. For dessert, we wouldn’t be able to order their coconut ice cream as you need to order 3 days prior but the Greek filo was divine, so we were happy.

Just at my first dinner visit there after a recommendation from a friend. It’s definitely an experience and somewhat a step back in time. The food was fantastic with highlights being spring rolls, crab cakes and beef short rib (get 2 serves though if sharing with groups more than 4 people). I would say that all dishes had unique flavours, which you don’t always get with Asian cuisine and super fresh. What needs to be improved though is speed of service. While the waitress on the night was fantastic with just one waitress and plus one chef in the kitchen you need to be very patient. So don’t turn up hungry! Otherwise it’s great food, well priced and BYO is nice plus. Ps : Joes Table can you please get a soft close front door as siting near the door and having to deal with it banging all night as customers come and go and head out to Vape is not needed. Bit of rubber around the door seal would do the trick. 14/20

Best Thai we’ve had in Sydney. Some dishes a little sweet but the fish curry and the duck red curry were both stand outs, really delicious. Service was great. Super casual dining but good tunes give the space a good atmosphere even though it’s very humble space. BYO wine with $4.50 corkage is a game changer! We’ll definitely be back.
